Our Story
Casa Deportiva Cumbre Alta was founded in 2011 as a ministry of Inca Link in Quito, Ecuador with a mission to holistically share the love of Christ and pursue the pinnacle of sport. This mission has expanded as the club has planted sites in the United States (2023) and Costa Rica (2024).
Our US site is based in the Bossier-Shreveport communities of Northwest Louisiana. We envision a sports club accessible to families of all socioeconomic backgrounds, where parents and coaches work together to develop resilient athletes who pursue their maximum potential and impact their community beyond the field.
Nathan Taube launched Cumbre Alta in Quito with the humblest of beginnings. Six youth players showed up for the first ever training session, and Nate's coaching had such a profound impact that only four showed up the next day...
But these small beginnings belied the work God wanted to do through Cumbre Alta. A youth team would play in a local tournament within the first half year and lose all games, but a men's team began to take shape by the end of 2011. Over the next eleven years, our Men's First Team, coached by Nate, rose from the sixth division to the third, becoming a fully professional team and leading players and coaches into a growing relationship with Jesus in the process.
Cumbre Alta was also on the cutting edge of soccer for women and girls in Ecuador, launching a girls team in 2012. Our Women's First Team currently sits in the second division and are aiming for promotion into the top division this year, an accomplishment which would see this team also become fully professional.
Promotions and international expansions are miraculous events for a club that started with six players on a summer afternoon, but perhaps the biggest miracle we have seen as a club so far has been El Nido (The Nest). In 2024, we began to have vision for purchasing a future home field. Over $1.2 million was raised in less than eight months, which allowed us to purchase the property we had in mind and begin renovations. The first match played at El Nido was hosted on April 19, 2026.
The full story of the club would not be complete without mentioning the efforts of Orlando & Soyla Medellin, who founded our first expansion site in Bossier City, Louisiana, where we are working with local partners on another field project...
...or Chelsey Brunt, who spearheads both the women's program in Ecuador and the camps that travel around the US each summer...
...or Matt Kieffer, whose business acumen and ambition took the club to heights that seemed impossible...
...or Jake Edwards, the founder and director of Cumbre Alta in Costa Rica, where they have teams not only in soccer, but also basketball and volleyball...
